Why I curated this

Nia The Light

"This was my last trip of the year and my spirit was so happy to be back in Africa. Visiting spaces like Gorée Island is a reminder of the journey our ancestors took and how we should take advantage of the limitless possibilities we now have in their honour. I felt divine, free, light and empowered on this trip."

My Itinerary

Na nga def Senegal! Arrive in Dakar and take the short ferry to Gorée Island, once a hub for transporting enslaved Africans across the Atlantic. Walking these streets is a powerful experience that connects you to history.

Visit the House of Slaves and its Door of No Return. Meet locals like Ms. Fatou, a beautiful Queen selling traditional Senegalese desserts who may invite you into her home. In these encounters, you glimpse the warmth of Senegalese hospitality.

Saint Louis is a DREAM. The energy of this city is unlike anywhere else. Check into Maison d'Hôtes au Fil du Fleuve, hosted by Marie-Caroline who is the sweetest and most regal lady. This boutique guesthouse sits along the river with views that will stop you in your tracks.

Spend your days strolling through the eclectic streets, learning about the colonial history, and discovering so much beautiful art. The architecture, the colours, the people. Everything here is a visual feast.

This is your sign to explore Africa. Spend your days roaming around the Senegalese streets, discovering hidden gems at every corner. The Faidherbe Bridge, the fishing quarter of Guet Ndar, the vibrant markets.

Book a photoshoot with a local photographer to capture the magic. The light in Saint Louis is extraordinary, and the colourful buildings make the perfect backdrop for unforgettable portraits.

Take one last morning walk through Saint Louis before the journey back to Dakar. The drive gives you time to reflect on everything you've experienced. Visiting spaces like Gorée Island is a reminder of the journey our ancestors took and how we should take advantage of the limitless possibilities we now have in their honour.
